Weekly Round Up: The Long Week Edition

Submitted by Kristy on April 24, 2009 – 10:51 pm3 Comments

I think this may have officially been one of the longest weeks of my life! TGIF! That said, I’m tired and ready for bed! Hope your week was better then mine! Here’s the links for a bunch of great reading this weekend.

- Patrick @ Cash Money Life asks, when was your last financial checkup? We’re so busy in life that sometimes we forget to make time for things that are important, but that we rarely think about. Financial checkups are one of those things. Ideally you should be conducting a checkup whenever there’s a major change in your life, but at least once a year. Patrick gives you the 411 on how to conduct your own checkup, so be sure to stop by!

- The Digerati Life has a guest blogger who talked about avoiding bankruptcy and listed 5 steps to take towards staying solvent. I agree with this article and think it’s a great reminder that there are options other then bankruptcy, despite my own bankruptcy series. I think it’s important to know your options, but it’s equally important to know how to avoid some of those options.

- Living Almost Large asks readers when is debt ok? I’ve talked about this before. I think debt is ok to take on in certain situations when it will be handled responsibly. Buying a house, in some cases college education, when it comes to protecting an asset or will save you money in the long run, or in limited cases, buying a car. Be sure to check out the comments on this one as everyone has varying degrees of belief on this topic. It’s quite interesting.

- J. Money @ Budgets are Sexy has a guest post by his brother entitled, “Debt is bad. It’s like kissing your sister and liking it…” I think that about sums it up, don’t you? Funny stuff, though!

- Five Cent Nickel has a really great piece on how to fix errors on your credit report. There’s everything you need from what you should be looking for to writing the letter to get it taken care of. It’s a great reminder that we should be looking at our reports at least once a year and it’s great information to have on hand!

- Frugal Dad gives his readers some tips on getting rid of unwanted credit cards. With America’s love affair with credit cards at least slowing down, if not coming to an end, some people have credit cards just hanging around and they’re not sure how to get rid of them without causing a mess on their credit. There are some good tips offered in both the article and the comments!

- Kevin @ No Debt Plan talks about making sacrifices in order to succeed. Oftentimes people want to get ahead, especially in their goals, but they’re not willing to make the sacrifices it will take to get there. This is a great tough-love piece and Kevin tells it like it is. Sometimes you just have to do what’s necessary. Be sure to check it out!

- Trent @ The Simple Dollar blogs about the debate on whether or not Mother Day should be celebrated. I agree that Mother’s Day was essentially created to promote consumerism, but it’s still a nice idea. Mothers should be celebrated. Trent offers some sensible options to help you celebrate and not buy into the consumerism of the holiday.

Hope everyone’s weekend is full of fun and good times!
