Weekly Round Up
Sorry I haven’t been around much this last week guys. It’s been a fun week, let me tell you. First, my computer caught a nasty little virus which I ended up having to send the computer in for repair. Now, I’m not really tech savvy enough to understand what they did, but basically it amounted to wiping the hard drive clean and starting over. So, I’ve been without my computer for a week. Then, I finally sat down to do my taxes – yes, I procrastinated! – only to discover that I owe $622! I’m counting my blessings that I live in Texas and don’t have state taxes.
At any rate, I’m a little behind on my reading, so if you haven’t seen me around your blogs, that’s why. But, I did get a chance to catch up on some reading, and so here’s the round up!
- Kelly @ Almost Frugal talks about building a budget in her back to basics series. I hadn’t heard of the PearBudget worksheet that Kelly mentions, but I checked it out and thought it was pretty easy. I might just switch over.
- Richard @ Blue Jeans Millionaire has an interesting piece on compassion fatigue. He talks about Houston giving money to people with low credit scores resulting from unpaid bills so they can buy a house. They tried to justify it by saying it was promoting home ownership. But, as Richard so aptly points out, it’s the same premise behind the subprime lending. Will we never learn?
- Patrick @ Cash Money Life has an informative post on how to file a tax extension. If you’re like me and waited until the last minute, there’s still time. Check out Patrick’s site for more details!
- Living Almost Large has a helpful guest post on managing credit when unemployed. Just because you’re out of work doesn’t mean your credit is put on hold. Make sure you know how to take care of it!
- Jeremy @ GenX Finance talks about handling tremendous investment losses. I especially like the tip to forget CNBC and think long-term!
- Frugal Dad blogged about living simply and off the grid. If you’re like FD, you’ve probably had dreams of living a simpler life, less hectic, maybe even out of the busy cities. But, the simpler lifestyle is harder to attain these days because of our attachment to stuff. FD gives some great tips on breaking the ties to our stuff and getting the less complicated lifestyle.
- Broke Grad Student talks about why we procrastinate. He gives a pretty comprehensive list as to why we tend to procrastinate and some tips for overcoming them. My challenge is poor time management. I take on a lot, but then I don’t manage my time wisely. It’s something I’m working on, but the biggest reason I procrastinate. What’s your reason?
- Ginger @ Girls Just Wanna Have Funds posted about women going from Wall Street to Stripper as the recession hits home for these women. I say to each their own, but I agree with Ginger. Becoming a stripper follows you for the rest of your life. These corporate women are going to find it hard to go back AND be respected in their workplace – especially after plastering it all over the news.
- Kevin @ No Debt Plan has a great post on why you’re still unemployed. He talks about seven common pitfalls – and he works in the staffing industry, so he knows – and ways to overcome them. I think a big one right now is the salary expectation. Sometimes you have to cut back in order to get ahead.
Ok, that’s all for now! Hope you guys enjoy the links and the rest of your weekend!
Happy Reading!
