Weekly Round Up
Well, the wedding was yesterday and despite some night before drama, everything turned out quite lovely. And, I didn’t fall as I walked down the aisle before the bride! Thank goodness! At any rate, lots of good stuff to read this week so I’ll just give you my favorites!
- Almost Frugal had a guest writer give us some tips on planning a frugal wedding. Since this is the time of year for weddings, I thought I’d share. Great tips!
- SVB @ The Digerati Life talks about her identity theft story. It’s a major issue that people aren’t taking as seriously as they should. Learn to protect yourself!
- FruGal talks about friends taking advantage of your kindness. When a friend is down and out, it’s natural to want to treat them to lunch every once in awhile. But, when things get better for them and they’re still expecting you to pay, they’re taking advantage of you! What should FruGal do? I say she should be honest, but I’m blunt like that.
- Lazy Man and Money discusses going back to work after blogging full-time. What I found interesting about this post is that LM discovered none of us are every really immune to the psychological pull of spending money. While us PF bloggers are probably hyper-aware of the situation and what’s happening, external factors always come into play.
- Mrs. Micah has a great guest post that talks about paying less and getting more. Contrary to the way it sounds, this post isn’t about scamming the system, but about making deals work to your advantage.
- Jeremy @ Generation X Finance has a great article on competing goals. He looks at saving for an emergency fund, planning retirement, and paying off debt as the main three goals to consider. I’m all about an e-fund and retirement, so those two would be my top priority. Some people are completely against debt and that would be theirs. What do you think?
- five cent nickel posted about economics, more specifically, velocity – or the speed of money. I found it interesting because it poses the question of how to fix the economy. If velocity is a key term in economics, then going out and spending money is a good way to help restore the economy. But, as readers pointed out, the banks refusing to lend also plays a role as well. I’m of the opinion that consumer confidence needs to increase all the way around before anything positive can be done in terms of velocity, but it’s an interesting article nonetheless.
- No Debt Plan posted a guest article on the most important item on your expense list. This post was quite interesting as I had never really looked at keeping track of my expenses this way. Since my spending has seemed to take a turn for the worst lately, I may have to try this and see how it goes!
- Trent @ The Simple Dollar talks about tactics that get you ahead at work. Given the state of the economy, there’s nothing like a little advice to help us keep our jobs and excel at them!
- Ashley @ Wide Open Wallet has a great tongue-in-cheek post about why she deserves a bailout. It was amusing and sums up the problem with this country so well!
And there you have it! There were a lot of good articles out there this week, so thanks to all who’ve written them! Hope everyone had a great weekend and a good start to the week!
Happy Reading!
