You do realize that, according to the generally accepted age range of the Boomer generation, those in this group will turn between 45 and 63 in 2009. I don't really think these ages qualify for senior citizen status. The so-named Silent Generation, those born between 1925 and 1945 and who will turn 64 to 84 this year, are probably the seniors and elderly to which you and Dawn refer. :)

I agree, Dawn. I'm not very fond of this product, but like many others, it does have it's purposes. I just hope that it's used responsibly. My credit union doesn't offer them, but Chase - that last bank I worked for - does. When they first rolled that out, I was a little hesitant to offer it. I never did, but I understand a few of my ex-coworkers did have some success selling them. From what I gather, it was the right product, but I'm still a little wary of it.

For some reason reverse mortgages leave a bad taste in my mouth. I can see why they might be useful - elderly person on fixed income, has a house paid off and no heir that they want to pass it to. It feels like a niche product that is good for a limited number of folks but has been twisted into something else that is not so savory. I get the impression it is a prime target for swindling, you know?
