Weekly Roundup
It’s at this time of year that I really hate not having cable…I completely missed the Oscars. I’m a big movie buff, as you may have gathered, so it’s always fun for me to see the stars come out and mingle on the red carpet. I always secretly wish to see a Tom Cruise meltdown…I missed the one where the faux-reporter squirted water in his face and he flipped out! I also enjoy the self-appointed fashion police’s assessment of the evenings dresses. That’s usually pretty funny, too. Despite the fact that the hosts get less funny every year, the Oscars will always be my favorite award show. I’m sad I missed it!
Ok, moving on. So, it’s been a hectic week for me and I’m terribly behind on my reading. Thus, my list is not as long as I’d like it. Nevertheless, I hope you guys find something you enjoy among my favorites!
- Kelly @ Almost Frugal talks about free online activities for kids. My sister has been looking for some fun things to do with the kids online, so I’ll be sending her this list!
- Patrick @ Cash Money Life has a guest post on altering habits to save money. Amen!
- The Digerati Life posted on investing tips for the beginning investor. It’s great advice, but I still think you should seek the help of a professional. Investing and picking stocks isn’t a DIY for everyone!
- FruGal has a fun read on virtues and how they relate to the recession. “What doesn’t kill us makes us stronger…” FruGal has a great outlook on the future and it was an interesting post.
- Lazy Man @ Lazy Man and Money has a guest post about helping parents deal with damage to their nest egg. Great advice in this post and something I’ve share with my parents. My dad’s really worried he won’t have enough for retirement. But, he stretches himself too thin in other areas. We’ve been talking about ways to maximize his assets.
- nickel @ fivecentnickel talks about turning money into time. If you’ve every listened to Dr. Randy Pausch give a speech, he generally brings this up. As I love anything to do with Dr. Pausch, this post caught my attention, and I love it! I’m always swamped for time. I need to sit down and consider how I can turn money into time.
- Frugal Dad tells you how to pay off your credit cards in 10 easy steps. These are good, solid tips. Most of which I ignored when I first started on my journey and learned through trial and error.
- Trent @ The Simple Dollar talked about the happy minimum, meaning are we overusing many of our day to day items? I like this because sometimes I’m terrible about this myself. Do we really need a fistful of toilet paper when a few squares will do? Interesting to think about the things we could save if we thought of the happy minimum.
And there you have it, folks! Have a great rest of the weekend and a wonderful start to your week!
Happy Reading!
