Weekly Roundup

Hello all! Hope everyone is having a fabulous weekend so far! Mine has been pretty busy studying for a test. Yay! Please note the dripping sarcasm. At any rate, between my bouts of studying, I ran across a lot of great articles for the round up. Enjoy!

- Kelly @ Almost Frugal talks about the other side of credit cards. Despite their evil ways, they do have some good traits to them.

- Patrick @ Cash Money Life gives us a heads up on the personal tax breaks in the 2009 stimulus plan. We’ll see if this turns out to be beneficial for us.

- Clever Dude has a post on shifting paradigms. If you read us here at MYC regularly you know I love the Franklin Covey 7Habit series, so I was naturally drawn to this post. Clever Dude has an interesting take on paradigms, so be sure to check it out!

- Millie @ The Digerati Life posted a great article on reducing insurance premiums by half . Definitely worth a look if you feel like you’re paying too much for car insurance.

- FruGal gives us some tips to save money while still dining out. These are great because sometimes giving up the dining out is not an option.

- Living Almost Large presented us with a guest post from Megan, a woman who wants to be a trophy wife . Many of you may have seen several posts about the DABA girls who were lamenting that their banker husbands and boyfriends weren’t pulling in the income they used to. Well, Megan gives us a look at the other side…still don’t feel sorry for these women, but hey, it’s good reading!

- FB @ Fabulously Broke in the City has an interesting post on why she hates the word “frugal.” Being frugal isn’t about being cheap, it’s about making smart financial choices. FB breaks that down for us.

- FB also has a post on the compounding interest formula. Now, why didn’t I think of that? Excellent post, though! I use these at least seven times a day!

- Jeremy @ GenX Finance asks if you’re part of the “gig” economy. Freelance work is definitely picking up in an uncertain economy, and if you haven’t joined the “gig” bandwagon, you may want to consider it.

- nickel @ fivcentnickel lists some tips on getting a good deal when buying a new home. I think the new tax credit will help a lot of new homeowners out, and if you’re considering a home, now may be the time…just check out nickel’s post first!

- Frugal Dad talks about starting a sunny day fund. We’re always so focused on having the “rainy” day fund, but in reality, having a sunny day fund is a great idea, as well. I think I’ll just call mine a DVD fund.

- Broke Grad @ Broke Grad Student gave us some tips on things to do before moving into a new apartment. Moving is a pain any way you look at it, but it’s good to be prepared ahead of time so you know what to expect during this hectic time.

- Ginger @ Girls Just Wanna Have Funds discussed the dilemma of balancing school, work, and family. While we all struggle with this, sometimes there seems to be more pressure put onto women to have kids while they’re still working on finishing school and building their careers. Being labeled primary caregivers, sometimes we capitulate. I say no. Ginger says she’s not ready. What do you say?

- Kevin @ No Debt Plan challenges us to stop making excuses about “why” we can’t get out of debt. He puts it simply…why can’t you?

- Trent @ The Simple Dollar talks about using the “Thirty Day Challenge” to benefit you financially. Basically, he breaks down 12 personal finance areas that you can focus the thirty day challenge on to help you in your finances. The power of habit is definitely on your side here!

- Trees Full of Money posted a great article on dealing with your car’s negative equity. Most of us have been there before, but the best thing to do is deal with it so you can move on. TFM can help!

Ok, well there’s a good list to get you guys started! I’ve got to get back to my studying *groans*, but hope you guys enjoy the links!

Happy reading!
