The Weekly Roundup

Submitted by on February 2, 2009 – 1:42 am3 Comments

So, I’m starting a nine-day vacation from the credit union, with which I intend to get caught up with some things I’m very behind on…I’m not doing so well with that. *sigh* Sometimes I feel like I need a personal assistant just to make it through the day. Isn’t that terrible? Ah, well. I’ll get there.

On that note, let me jump on into the roundup! Lots of goodies this week!

- Cash Money Life listed his top 10 favorite super bowl commercials. Compared to previous years’ commercials, I wasn’t impressed with this year’s offerings. I didn’t laugh once…but, I really liked the trailer for G.I. Joe.

- Clever Dude talked about the debate between keeping Netflix, or not . I say keep it and dump the cable. You can rent your favorite shows anyway, not to mention stream stuff directly from their website, now. But that’s just me.

- The Digerati Life sported a guest post from Trisha Wagner on teaching kids finance. It was a fantastic post and I agree with everything she said! Please teach your kids about finance!

- FruGal had a great piece on finding a job in a recession. Fortunately, I haven’t found myself in the position of needing to use these ideas, but I did pass it along to a friend. She especially liked the tips on the resume and CV.

- Bryan over at Frugal Logic talks about powering down the house when going on vacation. Bryan’s a little frugal intense here, but there are some great suggestions on saving for power when you’re not home.

- Living Almost Large asks if you’d pay $155k to clone your dog. Seriously, someone did this. Yeah, it’s not for me. What about you guys?

- Mrs. Micah’s got a new series going on tracking money…everything down to the last cent. I’m curious to see where I spend my money. Ok, well I know. But I think it would help as I’ve been feeling extremely lax in my spending lately. I think it would be fun if Jonathan and I both participate in this and track it here…if you’d like to see that, leave us some love! Help my convince Jonathan we should do it! Hehe.

- J. Money over at Budgets are $exy gives us a little Q&A on whether the financial crisis has a silver lining. Um, duh! We’ve become more conscientious savers! Yay for us. But, J. Money gives some specifics on his silver lining.

- Money Mate Kate talks about getting $260 worth of products for $15…from CVS . $15, can you believe it? Way to go MMK!

- Frugal Dad wails on the Obama administration for their new proposed bailout. Ok, he doesn’t really, but some of the comments do! FD gives us some insight to the pork we can expect this year…it is a little ridiculous and I sincerely hope that not all of this goes through!

- J.D. over at Get Rich Slowly talks about making your own luck. I like this article a lot and it really gives you perspective. They say attitude is 90% of the battle, and J.D. shows you why.

- Trent at The Simple Dollar talks about how material things can’t love you back. His touching story reminds us that we can pride ourselves on our material possessions until the cows come home, but it’s just stuff.

- No Debt Plan talks about staying upbeat in a down economy. I love the tip on turning off the news! Watching the news is the quickest way to get yourself in a bad mood!

Happy reading everyone!

@ SVB – Thanks! I missed your comment somehow, so I’m late to respond. It’s over now, but I had a relaxing time, which is always nice!
