Oh man, yeah i def. have OCD to a degree too and can relate to all of that stuff! For me, I always have to "touch things" a certain amount of times until I can move on....very strange really. and when i do move on before that special # comes, it freaks me out. but life goes on :) guess it adds some quirkiness to me. DEF worth checking out if it prohibits anyone from doing something though :(

Kristy,

Actually my OCD would stem from the fact that I'd be afraid to leave the house because I might forget something (IE the stove) and it would burn down.. etc..

The solution is not to make up little rituals or "methods that work" as you'll progressively start to lose faith in those eventually.
You are right about not being sure.. there is a very fine line between being obsessive and pedantic and being afraid to leave the house (which is what made me seek help)

The best advice is to do things properly, with minimal assurance that everything is alright and move on from there.
You are not going to do anything wrong (or forget a stove) and even if you do... guess what? mistakes are human.
The true test is.. can you go through a day without these little assurances and how do you feel afterwards?
Most likely it will be hard at first (painful in my case actually) but eventually it will get easier and before you know it you will be fine.

I'm not a professional either and OCD is a very hard to define thing and while it doesn't bother you now (I grew into it over the years, never realizing that I was going downhill) it might in the future.

Wow.. this is worthy of a blog post :)

Good luck and there is nothing wrong with OCD or accepting a little help. If you were really worried you would have probably talked to a doctor already, right? ;)

Regards,

Barry

@ Barry - Thank you for the offer! I'm no professional, so I may not even have it. My issue stems from handling large sums of cash all day and freaking out when things aren't in order. My coworkers give me a hard time because sometimes it's just the little things that bother me - like, if they don't turn the keys the right way in the vault before closing it. That drives me nuts the next morning. Can't help it, it just does. But, it's obsessive. I follow behind them now to make sure, lol. At any rate, aside from a little coworker irritation, it's not really affecting other areas of my life in a negative way. Personally, I think it keeps me good at work because handling cash is a big responsibility. I have my methods that work and it boils down to covering myself in the event something happened or came up missing.

Thanks again for the offer!

"17. I think I have OCD…it’s self-diagnosed, but I still think I have it."

Really?
I've been reading your blog for a while now (and while not all the advice applies to us Dutch people) it's been very helpful.

I've been diagnosed with OCD a few years ago and been on the road to recovery.
I'm nearly there and in fact the strugle of OCD is very similar to fixing debt problems (it's a long process with setbacks and all)
Feel free to contact me if you need help, pointers or advice.

Regards,

@ FB - Yeah, money is pretty gross! I handle it all day long and I keep a bottle of hand sanitizer around at all times. Glad to know I'm not the only one that hates baths!

@ Jonathan - A nice hot stone massage is waaay better than a bath any day for stress.

@ Kelly - I'll be sure to check it out! Thanks for letting me know.

@ 444 - You don't HAVE to post the 25 things on your blog, it's just as a "getting to know you" kind of deal. I'm not one for these tags either, but this particular one isn't so bad. Feel free to follow FB's lead and only do 10! ;)

@ Nicole - Thank you! My coworkers say that I can be so mean sometimes, but seriously, there is no reason not to get an education. At the very least, go to the library and do some reading!

Ok, J. Money, everyone I've tagged as checked in but you! Are you going to participate in our fun? Hmmm?? Hehehe.

Jonathan, you're going to post too, right?

I love it when bloggers do these. It's fun to get to know each other on a personal level!

I totally get what you are saying about stupid people. I feel like you have to actively try to be stupid in this world of information!

Oh wow - up until now I've avoided all these "tagging" things the same way I avoid those sales "parties." I guess I have to post the 25 things on my blog, right?

I love baths - not for getting clean, but getting warm. It's cold in here and I treat the tub like my own personal hot tub and I read and eat in there.
