Finance Fiesta – Procrastination Edition!

Submitted by CardMaster on October 2, 2008 – 11:14 am8 Comments

I don’t know why, but I’m a chronic procrastinator. Always have been, always will be.

Don’t get me wrong – it’s not that I actually *enjoy* starting assignments the night before they’re due, or (as the case may be) rushing to put together a blog carnival several hours after it was supposed to go up (and desperately trying to think of a decent theme), but for some reason things always seem to end up that way, and I often end up stressed-out, miserable, and unhappy with my lackluster effort.

I also, without fail, promise myself that I will get a handle on my procrastinating ways, but for some strange reason I just never get around to it. Funny, eh?

As it happens, Wikipedia has a really interesting page on Procrastination that I highly recommend you check out, especially if you’re afflicted like I am (preferably now rather than later…). It seems, for example, that there are actually two types of procrastinators: the ‘relaxed’ type and the ‘tense-afraid’ type. I’d say that I’m a 10% relaxed procrastinator, and a 90% ‘tense-afraid’ type. I don’t know about you, but this little excerpt really has me pegged:

“The tense-afraid type of procrastinator usually feels overwhelmed with pressure, unrealistic about time, uncertain about goals and many other negative feelings. Feeling that they lack the ability or focus to successfully complete their work, they tell themselves that they need to unwind and relax, that it’s better to take it easy for the afternoon, for example, and start afresh in the morning. They usually have grandiose plans that aren’t realistic. Their ‘relaxing’ is often temporary and ineffective, and leads to even more stress as time runs out, deadlines approach and the person feels increasingly guilty and apprehensive.”

Sometimes I think Wikipedia knows me better than I know myself…

Anyway, without further adieu, here are this week’s successful entries.

The Editor’s pick goes to Five Cent Nickel for his great overview of Current Online Savings Account Interest Rates. With inflation running at close to 5% and the Dow Jones going down the tubes, a high interest savings account is probably the best place for your money right now.

I hope you all find the time to check out this great selection of posts. Next week, the Fiesta moves on to Living Almost Large. Be sure to check it out!

Have a great weekend everyone!
