Kristy’s Weekly Roundup

Another week has flown by. I’m telling you, I seriously can’t figure out where the majority of this year has gone. It went by much too quickly!

A big thank you to everyone that included our articles in their link loves and carnivals! My article on whether you can afford to get sick was mentioned over at The Skilled Investor and seems to be fairly popular, especially now. So thanks again, you guys!

Alrighty, on to what I’m reading this weekend. I just finished a seminar called 7 Habits of Highly Successful People by the Franklin Covey Company. We have an in-house facilitator at work who teaches it and it’s actually a fabulous workshop – I highly recommend it! I’ve picked up the book and will be reading that here soon. Anyone else read it? Did you like it?

As far as posts out in the blogosphere go, I’ve found a ton of great articles, as usual.

- J.D. over at Get Rich Slowly gives us a basic economics lesson on money, complete with a video and everything! It was pretty interesting, so be sure to check it out!

- Ginger from Girls Just Wanna Have Funds talks about women losing their identities after having babies. It’s interesting, particularly in light of the job market right now. Some women lose their confidence in their abilities after having a baby and allow their worth in dollars to diminish as well. There’s also some interesting conversation on the board, so ladies, do join in.

- Living Almost Large discusses why the healthcare sucks in the US. Don’t even get me started on healthcare! My rates were raised…AGAIN! Something about going with a new carrier because our old one dropped us since too many people were filing claims. You don’t say! I can’t imagine why anyone would be getting sick right now, can you?

- No Debt Plan shares a comment from a reader who kept her AMEX card with the $395 annual fee for over 10 years. We talk a lot about not having cards with annual fees. Personally, I don’t think the services this woman described are worth $395 a year, but they were to her. You decide.

- Penelope at Our Fourpence Worth gives 101 ways to save money in your everyday life. I’ve done some of these!

- Trent at The Simple Dollar posted a visual guide to saving money with a baby in tow. Ok, is it baby season or something? ‘Cause, everyone’s talking babies! Still, great information and I’ll be sure to pass this on to my sister.

- Trees Full of Money has some good tips on things to do and ask before buying a new home. Right now is a good time to buy in that prices are down, though overall the market sucks. Still, there are deals to be had, so don’t let fear stop you from finding them!

- Trees Full of Money made my list twice this week and I even gave this URL out to people at work who don’t like paper based systems. It’s an older post, but one I stumbled upon by poking around the site. In it, TFM talks about his system for an excel based checkbook. I like it! Maybe I’ll give it a whirl, though it’s the one thing I can’t seem to go paperless on.

- Five Cent Nickel talked about his account at WaMu after the changeover. Seems like it was pretty seamless. But even still, I know my credit union has been flooded with people leaving WaMu, so I expect there will be more people leaving over the next few weeks.

That’s all for now! Hope everyone is having a fantastic weekend and enjoy the articles!
