Kristy’s Weekly Roundup

Can someone please tell me where this year has gone? I haven’t accomplished nearly anything that I wanted to for this year and I realized today that I start back to class on Monday. Fun stuff, especially since I haven’t ordered my book yet. So the first week will be interesting, but it’s a writing class so maybe I’ll get a little lucky, eh? I doubt it….

Anyway, on to the roundup for this week.

- Ashley at Wide Open Wallet talks about a guy who has bought a car every year for the last 50 years. Hey pal, I own some property on Mars I can sell you for cheaper than what you’re currently paying. OK, as a side note, I really do own a piece of property on Mars – someone thought it would be a funny gag gift. But, buying a new car every year is about as stupid as owning property on Mars.

- Nickel at FiveCentNickel  had an awesome post on how to find a good auto mechanic. You know, it bugs me that every time I take my car in for an oil change there’s always SOMETHING wrong with my car. The last time I went in they told me I needed a new master cylinder because my current one was about to go. I may be a girl, but I’m not an idiot! My dad (a mechanic) took a look at all the major stuff before he moved to Kuwait with his job, so I knew where I stood on everything. Imagine their surprise when I actually knew what I was talking about. Anyway, very helpful article for the ladies!

- Trent at The Simple Dollar gives some great advice on starting a bulk-buying co-op with friends and family members. Personally, I hate Sam’s Club because I have to buy everything in bulk and so much seems to go to waste before I get to it. I’m single, see and I don’t go through stuff very quickly. So, I try to avoid the place because it makes me cranky when I walk in. But, considering it from this perspective, I could go in with a few friends and we could split the cost and divvy up the stuff – saving me money and being just enough of what I need. I think I’ll call my friends up and see what they think!

- Flexo at Consumerism Commentary posted some tips to help students heading off to college. I needed this article when I started out in college! I think I blew through a month’s worth of money in about a week. I had no clue how to budget and moderation was not in my vocabulary!

- FB at Fabulously Broke asks if money affects the way we think about work. For me, if I hate the job, I don’t care how much they paid me, I wouldn’t stay. I have to have at least an interest in what I’m doing. I’d rather be passionate and broke than rich and miserable, but that’s just me.

I’m leaving this week’s roundup a little short because I’ve got a lot to do this weekend and haven’t had a lot of time to read. But, I’ll make it up to you guys in the next round up! Hope everyone enjoys their weekend!
