Kristy’s Weekly Roundup

I’ve got a hectic weekend ahead of me, so I’m going to jump right into roundup. Great stuff out there, as always!

First things first, a big thanks to Ashley over at Wide Open Wallet for hosting the Finance Fiesta! She had a great summer theme – the Olympics! – and a bunch of great material to read. Thanks for mentioning our post as well.

Also, thanks to The Skilled Investor for mentioning my post on beating inflation in the carnival of financial planning this week!

And on to what I’m reading. No particular order this week, just reading what catches my eye.

- Tricia at Blogging Away Debt talks about getting impatient with debt. This is a great read for anyone working towards getting out of debt. We all get a little impatient with our debt, but we can’t cut ourselves off from living life, either. Tricia and the family are contemplating spending a little money – small break – to go camping. I say do it, you need a little fun in your life and it will reaffirm your commitment to getting out of debt!

- Emily at creditcards.com wrote about a British couple that is having a “credit crunch” wedding. The whole thing will cost the couple 500 pounds (sorry, my computer won’t do the symbol…I’ve tried!). That’s about $1000 to us in the U.S. It’s certainly not the most romantic ceremony, but given the economy all over the world, spending more money wasn’t an option. I should send this to my best friend. Maybe she’ll pick up a pointer or two.

- Ginger over at Girls Just Wanna Have Funds wrote her group writing project on Cyndi Lauper. For those who don’t know, the group writing assignment was about rich people who’ve gone broke. As I’m a big fan of the cheesy 80s music, I really enjoyed this one. I actually had no idea that Lauper had declared bankruptcy. You learn something new everyday!

- No Debt Plan had a great post on Dave Ramsey that was initiated by a reader’s comment. I agree with No Debt…nothing personal towards Dave Ramsey, but his system is flawed. Judging by the number of reads and comments on my own post about Dave Ramsey I think it’s safe to say that this was a pretty hot topic!

- Trent at The Simple Dollar discussed which was better – chasing dreams or chasing money. I’m all for chasing your dreams, personally. I’d rather be dead poor and doing what I love than have all the money in the world and have to drag myself out of bed every morning. But, I’m single and don’t have a family to take care of, so the stakes are very different for me. I can definitely see the argument for chasing money.

Well, these are the articles I’m reading in the finance blogosphere. Hope you enjoy them and have a great weekend!
