From my life experience it better to be nice to creditors when you talk to them on the phone because they are monitoring your account by putting all information on your account whatever you are saying on the phone stay with your account and later on if you need to do something they may refuse staying that you were treating to them

I cannot negotiate by phone and I belive the methods cc companies use are a form of torture

NEVER LET A CREDITOR GET YOUR PHONE NUMBER AND CHANGE IT IF THEY DO.

Your best bet. Send them a letter and kiss your credit goodbye. The relentless collection calls will break you eventually and they will win. Dont play the game

I like the way you suggest saying "...or...have to close my card and go get a different one.” Throwing this out is a very powerful negotiating tool. Credit card companies value your business and know there are many options out there. Telling them you know this too, and you're willing to shop elsewhere will give them incentive to keep you around.
