Where did all the Credit card offers go?

Wednesday, 19th March 2008 (by Jonathan) -

Dear Credit Card offers,

What’s up guys? Long time no see! It was only a few months ago that you were in my mailbox almost every day, and now I’m lucky if I see you once a fortnight. It seems like only yesterday you were trying to seduce me with all sorts of crazy promises. A 0% interest rate on purchases for the next 12 months? You sweet talker, you!

Of course I never fell for it, charming as you were. I know your type - you’ll say anything to get into my pants, but we both know you won’t respect me in the morning. I resented your false overtures of friendship and hollow promises. I told myself I’d die happy if you never called me again.

And yet…

Now that you don’t drop around anymore, I’d be lying if I said I didn’t miss the attention. Sometimes it’s nice to feel wanted, even if it is for all the wrong reasons.

Look, I read the news. I know that you’ve been burned a lot lately. I’m not going to be a jerk and say it’s karma (though I hope you can at least appreciate the irony), I just want to know if I’ll ever see you again.

We all get our hearts broken once in a while, ya know?

Tis the joy of opting out.

Pretty funny. Although, I never got a lot of credit card offers even though I have a respectable FICO score… so I’m not missing them that much. I do get one every now and again. I bet once the economy gets going again they’ll be right back in your mailbox.

We used to get as many as 7-8 a week for personal and business cards, and that’s gone down to maybe 3-4 a week now and mostly addressed to our business. And I’ve noticed that the Introductory 0% APR offers have all but disappeared, too (I think we received 1 or 2 of those in the last couple of months as opposed to 1-2 per week.)

  4. Jose Says:

    Not so many anymore.

Good for the environment I guess.

I recently started a real job and paid off several cards, I have not been getting many new card offers in a new home, but the cards I already have are sending me more “checks” and other incentives to start using them and putting balance back on them from cash back for spending to lowering the rates temporarily.

I really think they are sad they are not getting any interest from me and want me to return to the dark, i.e. red, side for them.

Nice work, Philip - stay strong. Don’t give them the satisfaction!
