6 ways to date cheap without looking it

While there’s nothing wrong with the traditional d&m (dinner and movie) format, it’s not all that cost-effective and can easily leave your wallet over $50 lighter when the night is over. Besides, it’s hardly big on creativity or originality. Whether you’re a guy or a girl, here are 6 great dates that won’t cost you an arm and a leg.

A walk along the beach – Few things are more romantic than a leisurely traipse along the shore, with the waves crashing in the background and the intoxicating smell of the ocean permeating your senses. Sadly, the landlocked will have to settle for a lake or pond.

A trip to the art gallery – Let Him or Her know you’re a culture lover, or at least learn to fake it. The great thing about being an art critic is that you only need to *pretend* to know what you’re talking about! Most galleries are free, or charge only a nominal entry fee of a few dollars.

A day at the botanical gardens – A long time ago a very wise man once said that ‘Flowers are Love’s truest language’, and it turns out he was right – the scent of certain flowers are known to have aphrodisiac properties, so it’s no surprise they’ve become synonymous with love. And at the very least you’ll have the power of suggestion on your side – being surrounded by all those pistils and stamens is bound to do something!

A good old fashioned picnic – It’s an oldie and a goodie. The tried and tested picnic still ranks as one of the most romantic dates out there – provided you do it right. A bottle of wine, some nice cheese (I recommend a good Bulgarian feta, but your mileage may vary), bread and olives will always impress. You should be able to put together a nice little gourmet basket for well under $20 if you shop smart.

A visit to the museum – Nothing’s more of a turn on than big… brains. Apart from costing next to nothing, a trip to the museum will show your date that you’re also the cerebral type, and not just a pretty face!

Gazing up at the stars – For this one to work you’ll have to go a little way out of the city where the light pollution isn’t so prevalent, but boy will it be worth it – get ready to be treated to the most awe-inspiring light show you’ve ever seen, shooting stars and all. Brush up on a few of the more well-known constellations and impress your date with your newfound astronomical knowledge. Bonus points if you can point out their star of the zodiac!
